Just in case there's anyone here who isn't on facebook these days... this starts up at 7PM (central time) TONIGHT! We finally have a chance to get "Payphone"!
A very important note from Erik Kang ("Payphone" related
Several months ago, a friend of ours got in touch to talk about pledgemusic.com, a funding website he was working with. Think kickstarter, but a bit more... personal? The site had helped a bunch of great UK bands get funding for their albums, and the folks at the site wanted to begin working with American artists. They expressed interest in working on a campaign with Margot, we said thanks, and didn't think a whole lot about it. I guess some of the kickstarter campaigns had struck us kinda funny, and we weren't sure we wanted to throw our hat into that ring.
Some time passed, and they stayed in touch. Some different recording possibilities came up, and we began considering doing a pledge campaign. But we didn't want to throw up a bunch of old t-shirts and various crap. We decided that if we couldn't come up with a list of incentives that we would dig as fans, we wouldn't bother with doing it at all. So, Richard and I spent a couple months going through every archive we could find, trying to set aside the coolest out of print items, unreleased music and video from all eras of our recording career (including unreleased dust songs from the first Margot show. Margot was a three piece. No joke), and anything else we could come up with that people might dig. In short (or, short-ish) we wanted to make a fun campaign that wouldn't be lame, and would give you all the opportunity to help us raise funds to finish this record which, like all Margot records, has turned into a massive project. Did I mention it's really fucking cool. And it has some acoustic guitar on it!
Tomorrow, at 7pm, our pledgemusic campaign will launch, and we hope you will take some time to check it out. Again, we hope to make it fun and laid back. Emphasis on fun. And maybe raise a little dough to finish the process of making this album. It's fucking expense, don'tcha know. Below are some highlights from the incentives list. Several of these are super, super limited in quantity, so we wanted to give the people who really want those, a heads up...
(at long last) The "Payphone" single
footage from the yet unreleased La Blogotheque Margot documentary
out of print Broadripple 7"s
Original lyrics and studio notes, pulled from Richard's notebooks
the acoustic guitar we recorded Dust on
dozens of unreleased recordings (think of it as part one of the 'rarities comp)
guestlist VIP spots for the May tour
ULTRA -RARE vinyl test pressings of all Margot albums (and 7"s)
limited white vinyl editions of the new Margot album
private Christmas party, to hang out with the band, listen to the new album, and enjoy a performance
Record club packages (miss going to the record store on Tuesday? No? Well, we're going to send new and unreleased material to contributors, on various Tuesdays, over the course of the year, anyway)
Tons and tons more. Hope you enjoy it. Tomorrow. 7pm Central.
