I just got a record player for Christmas and I was wondering where the cheapest place to buy vinyls online is? Is ebay my best bet?

Well, indie record stores are becoming more and more limited everyday. I am lucky enough to live near one of the best in the states around me. But they will be
the only place with the selection you are looking for. If not, you will have to resort to buying them off merch websites, and like you said ebay. You should
definitely look into finding an indie record store around you.

Yard Sales are a great place to start your collection... just be cautious, if it looks really scratched up you might want to pass on playing it. As there can
be damage done to your needle.
Indie shops are a great place to start, IF you have one near you... A lot of bands are releasing new albums on vinyl, so, you can pick the vinyl up directly from them (it also normally means the band gets a higher cut of the profit). I've also used Amazon to help find some good new or recent records... Ok Computer for around $20, is not a bad deal. |

Thanks a lot you two! This definitely helped. I found this indie store that sells stuff online (in chicago.. reckless records I think?) and I got some pretty
good deals... although my bon iver vinyl was kinda warped and shitty.) I also bought some on amazon and ebay. Good stuff!

You can occasionally get 180 gram vinyls... which are made thicker than a standard record, while there's no real sound benefit, they will hold up a lot
better in shipping.
Another thing to watch for, is that with some newer re-issues they will cram more music than the vinyl can handle... and the sound quality suffers. A friend of mine picked up the Bends by Radiohead, which was pressed onto a single record, and the sound suffers... however, the copy of 'Ok Computer' I have was pressed as a double album and the sound is fantastic. Anything over around 22 minutes a side the quality will degrade. |

I use Amazon a lot, or thrift stores. Just got Public Enemy, the Grease soundtrack and the Talking Heads Speaking in Tongues for a dollar.

Amazon's pretty good as well... they've got the essentials as well as newer releases.
They're my go-to for newer stuff, but older stuff is yard sale fodder... something like Harvest, or Rumours, I'll wait until the yard sale. |

the grease soundtrack?! that's funny because my grandma is bringing me my mom's old grease soundtrack this weekend! (I'll probably listen to it
like once, ha. but it's still cool!)
