Ray LaMontagne. Trouble was one of my favorite records of 2005 (even though it came out in 2004; I was late catching on) and I just heard "Empty" from his new album. Listen to it as soon as possible. I was floored by his voice (all over again) and couldn't get the message of the song out of head for the rest of the day. So that's what's playing for the next two hours on my computer.

Ward Teitur (if you haven't already) Josh Ritter Cameron McGill Martha Wainwright (any of the Wainwrights, really) Otis Gibbs Gillian Welch (her stuff with Ryan Adams blows me away) Emmylou Harris (also collaborates well with Ryan Adams) on that note, Ryan Adams - if you can find the EP 48 Hours its very folky, and Gold and Heartbreaker were rather folk-laden albums i could go on and on. but i will stop here. Ray's new album is just as amazing as his first, if you ask me. he took what worked and expanded on it. i adore his cover of Gnarls Barkley's Crazy. a whole new take on that song. -megs *Now with more cowbell!!*

I recently got into Josh Ritter (Girl in the War, what a fabulous song!) and Ryan Adams has always been a staple, my favorite are the Love Is Hell EPS. How is the new M. Ward album? I've heard good things.

Posts: 2204 (09/04/06 12:23 PM) Sex Worker Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	i don't yet have Post-War, and haven't really heard much about it. i know that there is some talk about it over on the dotorg. you might head over there to look. i'm not allowed to talk about ryan adams. cause of the lawsuit and all. i KID!! I KID!! but its a borderline obsession for me. i love 48 Hours and Exile on Franklin Street. and as unpopular as Rock-N-Roll is, i think it is brilliant. may i suggest John Mellencamp's Words and Music? i think its a lovely album. and Big Daddy is a personal favorite, as well as The Lonsome Jubilee. as far as songwriters go, i think he is underestimated and underappreciated. too many people try to make him a pop singer. but in reality, lyrically, he is a storyteller. -megs *Now with more cowbell!!*

"trouble" was one of my favorites the year that it came out. such a different style of music than what i had liked at the time, but so classic. "jolene" is a favorite of mine, and always will be. isn't it funny that i'd never heard that name until ray sang it, and look how a certain someone else has it in multiple songs. strange. Elliott Smith Rufus Wainwright Amos Lee Griffin House The Rosewood Thieves Marc Broussard (a little bit of a stretch) Josh Rouse Dave Barnes Page France Jamie Cullum while none of those artists sound just like ray, as his sound is so unique, they have similar qualities. i love recommending music. got any other artists? -Christie- MYspace www.paperkittennightmare.com I'm booked!! And I haven't heard Gentlemen Caller yet ( ) even after the Margot rec. from the AOL interview. Weird random note from seeing Elliott Smith pop up. I'm in the middle of this biography of his called Elliott Smith and the Big Nothing which is a really fascinating read. He led such an interesting life, despite being sort of this everyman musician. Yeah...time to put on some X/O.
