i'm originally from indianapolis, but am in Clemson, SC now. [Charleston this summer!]
Margot had been the buzz for a while around Indy before I first saw them at Midwest Music Summit in Aug. '06. I loved what I'd heard on myspace, but getting out to any of their previous shows unfortunately never worked out. I've seen them twice since, in Atlanta and at The Irving in Indy in Dec. So, I'm fairly new, but fairly addicted. PKN is getting me through the tough times between tours and the upcoming EP/ Album though. Thanks guys. |

I'm from New Orleans. Born and Reared.
I first found out about Margot in early 06. I had some contact with a local college dj, and she was flipping out about them. So I checked out what I could find on the web and really liked it. About a month later I got tickets to go see Film School in Baton Rouge. Lo and behold, Margot was the opener. They blew me away. I talked to a friend of mine the next day, and he told me he had the album. So I stole it from him. I couldn't stop listening to it. I completely fell in love. About 3 months after that, another friend was listening to Margot with me at my office. He asked me where I got it because it sounded different from the album he had. It turns out that the album I jacked from my friend was the independent release from 05. I went out and bought the true release that afternoon, but I was a bit nervous about listening to it. I mean, I'd fallen in love with this album. What if they changed something I loved about it? What if it was too glossy and produced? What if the Margot I'd fallen for wasn't even the real Margot? What's a boy to do? The album sat unenjoyed for about 2 weeks. When I finally tore the plastic off and popped it in the ol' compy, I was honestly worried that I wouldn't like it as much as the demo version. It goes without saying that I was not disappointed. Even things they changed - like the intro to Skeleton Key - that were favorites of mine before, were even better now. I was afraid that a more produced version of Light On a Hill would lose it's magic, but the newer version just enhanced what I loved in the first place. I didn't think it was possible, but they had made the album better. Everything about it, from the production to the reordered tracklist, had been improved. The first listen through...I almost cried. I still listen to the demo version every now and then. I've got memories attached to that thing. I don't want to gush (I'm a little afraid of turning into a jen-and-tonic-esque stalker Won't you? |

isbo, why you gotta call me out like that?
haha. (tiffany, that's my new favorite emoticon. in the conservatory. haha that was so funny) I'm from Houston. I discovered Margot in March of last year. I was at Waterloo Records in Austin, wishing I lived there (in the store or the city, either one would be good) and saw the album on a listening station. I was intrigued by the band name, cover art, and little blurb about them. I listened to the first minute or so of the first song, bought the album, and listened to it over and over the whole way back to Houston. It's been in pretty heavy rotation since then, and I still haven't gotten remotely tired of it. I saw them open for Film School last June (I think) and that just took my affinity for this band to another level. Seriously, seeing them live really messes me up, in a good way. (I mean that as a sincere compliment and I hope that it makes sense outside of my head.) I could gush further, but I won't put you all through that. |

what a cool read so far guys! great idea.
let's see, i have lived in or around the dallas/fort worth metroplex my entire life. i first learned about margot nearly two years ago. my how time flies! i was up in indianapolis for the summer NAMM 2005, which is a big guitar/musical instrument showcase. the 2005 midwest music summit was being held that same weekend throughout downtown indianapolis and broadripple. they had some sort of deal where you got a MMS wristband for real cheap if you were registered for NAMM. so, i figured it would give me something to do at night while i was up in indy, as i knew no one up there besides a few of the vendors that were at NAMM. with my wristband purchase, i got a double CD from MMS that featured songs from selected artists that would be playing throughout the weekend. i had never heard of a single band listed that was playing. i remember questioning whether i should've spent the money on a wristband. nevertheless, i remember sitting in my hotel room, hunched over my laptop skimming through the songs on the 2-disc sampler. i circled in pen on the back of the cardboard CD case (i still have it!) this song by a crazy band named "margot & the nuclear so and so's - vampires in blue dresses". i remember hearing that very first bit of margot, and being surprised that it was a guy singing, because i, like so many others have now said, thought it would have been a chick lead singer or something. anyways, i could go on and on, but i ended up leaving indianapolis with a new love for three bands back in july 2005: margot, cameron mcgill, and romantica. margot took my heart. when i got back home to texas, i researched them as much as i could. there was hardly any info about them out there on the internet. they only had their standard records webpage back then, and that didn't have much info on it. i ordered 2 copies of the old school "dust of retreat" (of which, for whatever reason, they only sent one, haha). i remember being so excited about this new band that i'd learned about, but frustrated at the same time, because they were soooo good, yet they were only playing shows up north at the time. we're talking indiana with a few chicago and new york dates, that's it. i was devastated that i might never get the chance to see them in texas! finally i signed up for a myspace page and started following what was going on with them there. i would beg them to come on a tour that led them this direction, but didn't know if it would ever really happen. i remember not long after that, i learned that they had gotten signed with artemis records. i was so relieved! it was like, "thank goodness, someone finally took notice of this band!" i had been thinking about starting up some sort of message board for them, because they had nothing at the time. i remember talking to michaela for the first time, and she told me about how there used to be a message board through standard records, but that it was no longer around. i wanted to create some place where the people who loved margot's music could get together and discuss it! i messaged the band through myspace, and i remember freaking out when i saw a message back from richard giving me his blessing to start up PKN. so, that's my story. and yes, to sound like a complete sap, margot has changed my life. they truly have. before them, i didn't think you could really be friends with a band. i've also learned so much about how the music business operates, for the better and the worse. it's been a roller coaster, but i'm not getting off of it anytime soon. edited because i just now realized after reading this, almost a year later, that i put january 2005, when i meant january 2006 as the first time i met them in person. sorry about that!

I re-read my Top 10 List, and realized that a friend gave me the real Margot album and I ended up buying the Figurines album that day.
jacob wonders if he's ever actually purchased a copy of Dust I guess I've made up for it in concert tickets and merch. |

And that's why you deserve this thread, Christie.
Tag: Homoerotica. Classic. ![]() Is this Richard humping Casey? I don't really have a story but I remember Christie pimping the band over at another message board and decided to check them out because their name sounded like orgy to me. Margot & The Nuclear So and So's. Doesn't it? I'm okay with being unimpressive, I sleep better.

Here is mine. It started one night in this club. I had just arrived from Seattle, alone with heavy thoughts and wanted to remove every little thorn in one waxing. Out the motel and towards downtown, I saw some people hanging out in front of what seems a dive. Asking one of them for a smoke I leaned in towards the door. A drunken guy bumped into me on his way out. He excused himself and slowly started to tell me that I had just missed the best band of the night but more live music was on its way. I asked him who HE thought was the best band and in return he mumble this long-winded jumble of words. Almost getting annoyed I shrugged and lit up my cig looking away, to the empty street. It was dark and the street was soaked in glistening and silence. I know because Im IN the band. I turn around to see the drunken guy about two feet away from my face. I smiled at him, amused with his outburst. He started gesticulating as if playing an instrument and let out this low laugh, almost under his reeking breath. I thanked the girl who had given me the cig and saluted the drunken guy before going back to nowhere in particular. But he insisted I stay, nearly giving me the order to follow him inside. What could I do? I had to abide. Placing his unlit cigarette behind his ear, he entered the club, stopping to talk to an immense man then continued his way to the bar. I remember thinking that he was walking like a sober creature, driven and unaffected. I noticed another band was on stage setting-up when I was told by my guide that they were not worth my time, jokingly. I was starting to enjoy the loud voices, drowning each other between swigs. This is what you need to hear. He drops a few CDs on the bar, smiling slyly. I walk up to the pile and pick one up trying to make out the cover in almost total darkness. Suddenly, the faint glow of a lighter appears next the jewel case and emerges the picture of what seems like a dinghy full of catheads on sticks. What got my attention was the title: Dust of retreat. Dust of retreat. Very interesting. I remember staring at the cover for a long moment before I turned over to the song listing and as I noticed some of my favorite words such as sorts, mouse, clown, barfight, he whispered to me over his drink: Take those with you and enjoy. Just dont tell the rest of the band.. or anyone else that I gave them to you. Thinking for a moment I should explain that I didnt know the band I gazed into his little eyes I remembered what my mama used to say about inebriated folk so I smiled and thanked him for the kind gesture and promised him that I would give it a listen as soon as I got home. Unfortunately, those CDs got left behind somewhere at some point in the night. I havent the faintest idea how. Lucky for me, it was while I was sitting at work, listening to an online radio that I caught a song called Skeleton Key that got me to google the title and at long last find the band that is now one my favorites in the scarf rock genre. |

Hi my name is Madison wasn't sure where to jump in but saw this thread and thought hmmm...
Well I am in Texas DFW area and a friend told me about ez board so I checked out some of the boards. One day I was looking around and just put in "kitten" to see what it brought up and the first board was this one...well I had no idea who this band was and clicked on a couple of the links..(sorry I kinda lurked awhile before I joined)...I was amazed at what I was hearing!! With all the bands these days doing covers of every other song out there it was refreshing to find a band that did original stuff I actually wanted to hear...So whoever started this thank you cuz otherwise I probably would have never found this amazing band!! |

i keep meaning to post in this thread and i keep getting distracted....ooh, shiny keys.
anyway....it seems there are a lot of texans here, huh? i'm one, too. i live 1/2way between dallas and little rock. went to college in austin...lived in houston for awhile, too. the plan is to move back to austin eventually. anyway, i had to check my itunes to see when i first heard margot...evidently it was about a year ago. i heard them on xmu. i don't have it, but my parents do. so when i borrow their car, i listen to xm...mostly xmu. seems like i heard a couple songs on there. liked the songs, liked the name of the band...when i got back home, i downloaded a few songs from itunes....that's how i know it was around may '06. i was supposed to go see them with the elected (who i also dig), but relatives came into town...and generally it's frowned upon to leave town when relatives arrive i don't actually remember when i finally bought the cd....because i also googled the lyrics to a light on a hill months after downloading some of their songs when i saw it on bones and found out it was that same band i'd been digging. i think that was about the time i was supposed to see them in denton. it's funny, i was bound to become a fan....all roads lead to margot...if they hadn't gotten to me on xmu, they would have gotten to me because they toured with another band i like and if that didn't do it, they popped up on a show i watch. those margots are determined |

I currently reside in Ohio, unfortunately for me. I plan to move to New York within two years time.
I first got into Margot through some random forum actually. I saw a link to their myspace in someone's signature and the name struck me as funny. I went there to check them out and I immediately fell in love with "Real Naked Girls". |

Last year my boyfriend wanted me to go see this band live. I'd never heard of them so he called up and requested "Skeleton Key." I said OK, though I really wasn't into the song much (used to not stray from the classic rock stations). Thought they were freaking awesome live. And I still do. I guess that SOB-BF is good for something. |

i'm from indy and going to college in columbus (OH. oh, and i'm stephen btw). i guess my story unfolds in this way: i had a friend who went to spend a
year teaching english in japan, and was back in town for only a few weeks for christmas. he'd said "hey wana go see this band margot?" he and
another friend of mine were into them since they were fans of archer avenue back in the day. so three of us meandered our way down to the melody inn, and for
the lack of being 21 could not get into the bar to watch the bands. the show was supposed to start at 9 with margot on at 12, but when the first of 4 bands
(Everything, NOW!) started at 11 and we were still standing outside watching through a frosty window we decided to leave after they finished. they were great
by the way, they grilled bacon onstage and we bought their cd's from the percussionist who was also under 21 and not allowed in the bar unless he was
onstage, haha. that was dec. 05
after that we drove up to fishers where there's a 24hr starbucks (hell yes) listening to everything now and then margot the whole way, the next day i went and bought the album from indy cd and vinyl, it was the standard release since the other hadn't been made yet! so i went back to cbus and told people of all the glory that is margot, including my girlfriend at the time and when they came around to skully's in april (on chris' birthday) i went with her and another friend of mine. they played 4 songs, got pissed at the sound guy who apparently only liked to give them fuzz in the monitors and walked off stage, allowing the sound guy to let the feedback created ring on for another good 2/3 min. and though the monitors may have had a bad mix, my friend and i were floored by what we'd jsut heard, my gf wasnt and that should have been my first clue we weren't gonna last, haha. after that i got everyones autograph including stacy's since she was there adn they even offered me a ride back to indy since i said i was from there. i still regret not going, but i'd have no way of getting back to school the next week. since then i've seen them a total of 13 times, including seeing them two weekends in a row, once at OU in athens OH and then at Notre Dame in north indiana, i think tahts when most of them started recognizing me, am i right? |

California is a really boring place. I've lived many places in Cali, and even spent some time in Guam as a child, but my parents settled here. My exgirlfriend who wasn't my ex or really anything at the time, was once a girl I wanted to impress. I found Margot. And she told me how much she had already loved them. It was the first of many things that connected us. I've spread this album all over this Valley of mine (Legally!), and I hope to continue doing so with Animal. I saw a show they played with Grand Ole Party, and The Elected, which was amazing. The entire band signed my exgirlfriend's 8 inch. |
