We hopped into his car & drove around listening to Animal! on CD (the only one in existence, as the rest of the band has it on their iPods). I begged for a copy, but that is not possible (for obvious reasons). IT IS AWESOME!!!! Prepare yourselves for an amazing album that is nothing like Dust of Retreat, except for the fact that it was put together by the same geniuses who brought you that one PLUS Brian Deck (another genius). Very well crafted songs, experimental mixing & production, & complex interweaving of giant sonic textures, while still allowing for the tension from dynamic contrasts. The sort of album that will addict you even more than the first. As always, the lyrics are thoughtful, emotionally delivered and paint snapshots of lives observed. It will be interesting to see how close they are able to come to pulling the sounds of the album off live. I have a feeling that the live show will be somewhat different, much like the live show was different in ways than the Dust of Retreat. Different but great, nonetheless. Anyway, I can't wait to get my copy on vinyl & Not Animal on CD. They should release it using T-Bone Burnett's CORE technology (DVD 24 bit, 96 kHz), for those with out a turntable. Posts: 10 (07/15/08 7:41 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Well, I only got to hear some of it. It was about 2 AM on a Sunday night & I had to be to work by 9. I heard a couple of songs in their entireity (At The Carnival, A children's crusade on acid, & Cold, Kind, Lemon Eyes), then Hubert tortured me by playing the first 20 seconds of about everything else, saying things like..........."and then there's this one, oh and how about this?". My wife had called me, telling me to get my ass back home, so I couldn't hear the whole thing. But from what I did hear, I was SO impressed. The songs are a lot different than their initial development I was hearing at Queensize back in the Spring of '07, as would be expected (mainly in orchestration & arrangement). That's another great thing about these songs, they work on an acoustic guitar or with an orchestra (of sorts). This is one thing that is the same between DOR & Animal!. Cannot wait until October 7th!!! Anyway, glad you like the MFT show Richard. I am thinking of going to Christian's Open Stage at the Red Eye tonight. Have you been yet? Hope to see you soon!! A very unique sound, with some of the best lyrics in the business right now. Business is a bad word.....I am excited for the new albums of what i believe to be the best two bands, that have the two best songwriters of our time. Margot and Okkervil River. You really have created the best album of the year i believe. Thanks

Record companies don't like leaks (especially in the digital age). Hard to make any money on something that everyone already downloaded 4 months before it came out because someone gets a hold of it somehow, then uploads it illegally & everyone finds it & does the same. I am not suggesting that you would do that hkevlar, but I will gladly wait to get mine when they release it. Daytrotter EP comes out soon, so we have that to look forward to. I really love these guys (& Emily), am proud of them & what they have accomplished in what really is a relatively short amount of time. I want to see them succeed on the level they deserve to (without artistic compromise). The release of Animal! & Not Animal shows me that the band stood its ground about putting out the record they wanted to. It also shows that Epic thinks enough of the band to support them in co-releasing two albums of material on the same day. This is NOT something that is done every day. We should all be thanking Richard & the rest of the band for getting Epic to release 17 songs to all of us instead of just the 12 that Epic preferred (Not Animal). That being said, I would still not say no if someone in the band gave me one. If I could put a face with rolling eyes here, I would.
